Diet of Green Sea Turtle |
|
The Green Sea Turtle’s diet is a little strange. When the sea turtles are hatchlings, they are omnivores. An omnivore eats both plants and animals. A main animal that hatchlings enjoy eating are jellyfish.
When the sea turtles are adults they are become as herbivores. An herbivore only eats plants. The adult jaw has jagged edges that cut through sea grasses, algae, and seaweed. The sawlike beak allows them to scrape algae without off rocks. It also helps them tear grasses and seaweed. Like cows, the sea turtles depend on the bacteria in their guts to digest their food. They no longer eat jellyfish and only begin to rely on plants to eat. |
