A green sea turtle can lay about 50-200 eggs at one time. After about 45-70 days, the eggs will begin to hatch. They use their sharp beak to open the shell, similar to a chicken.
One challenge a baby sea turtle has is finding the ocean. They look for the natural lighting of the moon on the ocean. The beach houses lighting distract the turtles and they go the wrong way. That means that only some of the hatchlings go into the ocean with the rest of his brothers and sisters.
The second challenge is predators. They have many different types of predators, on land and in the water. Since the turtle's shell hasn’t fully developed, it is easy for a ghost crab to have one as a midnight snack. A bird could easily swoop down and grab the turtle. Also, a dog or a raccoon could run across and grab a different turtle. Once it gets in the water, it has to be careful of fish snacking on it. They turtles have to be quick and careful. Only one out of a thousand turtles survive.
