About the Migration of Green Sea Turtles
The migration patterns of the green sea turtle are near warm tropics. They nest in tropical and subtropical regions around the globe. The turtle migrates to their nesting areas to breed. It is generally where they are born. They go along the Gulf Stream current. These turtles travel 2,094 kilometers across the Atlantic to Brazil feeding grounds. It takes about 50 days to go the Brazilian feeding grounds. Since there is a current in the Atlantic, it only takes 30 days. Even blind turtles make this trip and back. Sea turtles nest in tropical and subtropical regions around the globe. Both males and females will migrate to nesting areas to breed, generally in the area where they were born. Often these migrations take them hundreds and even thousands of miles.

Navigation Hatchling MigrationStudies of loggerhead and leatherback hatchlings have shown that moonlight reflected from the sea is an important visual cue in guiding movement from the beach to the sea. This could then help if the nesting sites of the turtles are affected by artificial lighting. Some turtles head towards the artificial light, such as building or homes.
